This experience not only refined her palate but also instilled in her a deeper appreciation for teamwork and innovation.

Kastman’s journey continued to flourish as she took on leadership roles, including sous chef at Sarma and executive chef at Driftless Cafe. Each position offered new challenges and opportunities, allowing her to develop skills in teaching and mentorship. When she became a mother, Kastman reevaluated her priorities and eventually returned to the culinary world, driven by a desire to create meaningful connections through food. Her vision for Purslane, an Eastern Mediterranean restaurant in Milwaukee, aims to celebrate local farming and bridge cultural divides. Inspired by her recent trip to Turkey, Kastman is committed to crafting a dining experience that fosters community and highlights the beauty of shared plates and conversation.
