In early November, a significant event took place as Notre Dame Law School and University College London came together to host their third annual Law and Finance Conference in the vibrant city of Chicago. This collaborative effort was organized by Professor Patrick Corrigan and Carsten Gerner-Beuerle, who brought their extensive expertise to the forefront. Uniting Law and Finance Scholars for Impactful Research

Presentations and Workshops

Gerner-Beuerle presented an important paper titled “Stakeholder orientation, ESG ratings, and firm performance,” which was co-authored with Edmund Schuster from the London School of Economics. This research delves into crucial aspects of stakeholder orientation and its impact on firm performance. The work also examines the role of ESG ratings in this context. ND Law Professor Maria Maciá also made a notable presentation, sharing her paper “Mortgage lending discrimination and the move to disparate impact standard.” This exploration sheds light on an important issue in the mortgage lending industry.

Corrigan's paper, co-authored with Peter Conti-Brown and Jeffery Zhang titled “Is confidential supervisory information material to investors? Evaluating the conflict between banking and securities laws,” was presented by co-author Jeffery Zhang from the University of Michigan Law School. This research addresses a complex legal issue and provides valuable insights into the conflict between different laws.

Participating Scholars

The conference attracted notable scholars from various prestigious institutions. From the University of Chicago Law School to Stanford Law School, Notre Dame Mendoza College of Business, Goethe University House of Finance, University of Illinois College of Law, BYU Law School, London School of Economics, and University of Cambridge, a diverse group of experts came together. Their presence added depth and breadth to the discussions and research presented at the conference.
